About Katherine
I became interested in complementary therapies in the late 1990's. I was drawn to aromatherapy and became fascinated by the potential of essential oils to influence the emotional state as well as the physical body. I liked the idea of being able to work simultaneously on the physical and emotional planes of experience.
I was looking for a way to work with the body which included the emotional and psychological dimensions as well as the physical. Something which addresses a person as a being, comprising many different planes of existence, including that of body, mind, emotions and soul.
I wanted to do something that was grounded and very real... and touch is real, it is affirmative; it lets us know we are alive and here in the present moment. . .
I perceive massage as a space to allow what ever needs to surface and feel that my role as a therapist is to take a back seat.
I do not heal but instead by allowing the body, space to unwind and release tensions and blockages I hope to facilitate a process of healing. I can observe, encourage and promote what is supportive; I can work with you, but I cannot fix you or make you better!
"We cannot heal directly; we can only help the body to heal itself by encouraging the natural healing force within, and allowing it to do what it wants to do. So often we interpret sickness as something unfortunate and undesirable, and yet often, especially in acute disease it is a manifestation of the body's attempts to restore health and harmony."

Training
I trained in Aromatherapy and Therapeutic massage at the Tisserand Institute, qualifying in 1999. I followed this with an advanced course in focused deep body work in 2001.
I am a fully insured member of the IFPA the governing body for Aromatherapists and hold a Diploma in Holistic Aromatherapy, TIDHA.
Since 2001 I have been working as a full time massage therapist and continue to explore in the realm of bodywork. I am currently doing a foundation course in Deep bodywork (a form of body psychotherapy) with Silke Ziehl at the Open Centre, a fascinating exploration of the key developmental stages of the bodymind and the way in which the body holds and is shaped by our life experiences and indeed has its own knowledge and story to tell.
